Teachings on Shitro with Jakob Winkler
The UK Gakyil is delighted to announce an online weekend teaching on the practice of Shitro with SMS instructor Jakob Winkler – Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th February 2022, 10 am to 12 noon and 3pm to 5pm UK time.
Shitro, the manifestation of the peaceful and wrathful deities, is a tantric practice closely connected to Dzogchen. It can be used to purify our own obscurations, as well benefiting the dead. It is based on the Bardo Thodrol, or Tibetan Book of the Dead, a treasure teaching of Guru Padmasambhava revealed by the 14th century terton Karma Lingpa. The version we use, chosen for its simplicity by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, was composed by the 17th century terton Mingyur Dorje.
Topics covered in the course include:
- Death and dying in the Buddhist view
- Preparation for the moment of death
- The mandala of the peaceful and wrathful deities
- How to practice Shitro
- How to benefit the dead and dying with Shitro
