Light of Kailash 15: Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s Guide to Central Tibet

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s Guide to Central Tibet with Matthew Akester

This talk will focus on the background to Khyentse’s Guidebook and its significance, and what went into compiling the commentary. The first travel guide as such in Tibetan literature was written on the authority of the great Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo in the mid-19th century, based on his own travels and exceptional knowledge of the history of Tibetan Buddhism. This illustrated talk looks at the original work and the writing of a modern commentary.
