MODULE FOUR: The Paramitas: Bodhicitta in Action
This fourth weekend will focus on the theme of ‘The Paramitas: Bodhicitta in Action’. ‘Paramita’ is a Sanskrit term meaning ‘Perfection’ referring to the noble character qualities of a realized being. In Mahayana Buddhism there are six of characteristics described, which are: generosity, morality, patience, perseverance, meditative stability and Prajnaparamita or the perfection of wisdom. These six perfections are also the qualities which a student of Buddhism aims to understand, practise and eventually embody on the Bodhisattva path. This module will focus on the first five Paramitas in all their various aspects, while the sixth Paramita will be covered in Module V. The sessions will follow the text as it is presented in ‘Gateway to the Teachings’
